A protein kinase encoded by the Saccharomyces cerevisiae CDC28 gene and required for progression from the G1 to the S phase in the cell cycle. It is a complex of approximately 160 kD containing a substrate called p40. (Cell 1988 Sep 23;54(7):1061) EC 2.7.1.-.
